We are affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA) and are a community church located in Mountainside, New Jersey, 25 miles west of New York City.
We are a fellowship of believers who come together to:
- study and learn about God and ourselves
- serve God through serving each other, serving our community and joining with other Christians to serve the world
Our worship includes Scripture readings, prayers, a children's chat, a sermon and plenty of music.
Our study includes Sunday School for all ages, Confirmation Class, Youth Fellowship programs, Bible Study, our Women's Association and our Men's Group.
Our service includes numerous opportunities for mission work both in our immediate community and in reaching out to minister to needs across the globe. Ministry to our own members ranges from taking flowers to those who are hospitalized to Christmas Caroling at the homes of shut in members to providing opportunities for fellowship and recreation for members to enjoy each other's company. We hold each other in times of sorrow and help in times of need.
We truly are a community church in that a major focus of our ministry is to our surrounding community. Our church building is in almost constant use. We boast a very fine Nursery School for 2 1/2, 3 and 4 year old children. The local Boy Scout Troop 177 is sponsored by us and meets in our building. Three separate Alcoholics Anonymous groups meet here as well as the local Senior Citizen group. Our Assembly Room serves as a polling place for government elections and a local drama group meets here throughout the year.
We truly are a community church in that our members are people who care for the world. We range from housewives to horse trainers, from artists to zoo keepers in our professions. What we have in common is that we are people who are willing to reach out. We are not only active in the church but we also serve by supporting the local library, the rescue squad and the fire department, the Scouts and the little league. Many of our members have served in almost all the elected positions in local government and school board.
I hope you have a sense of the Community Presbyterian Church as a vital, exciting place. I also hope you have a sense of us as warm, loving fellowship of people trying our best to be faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.
