Nursery School

Philosophy

The Community Presbyterian Nursery School has a traditional nursery school program with emphasis on the cognitive, social and emotional development of each child. Pre-reading, pre-writing and pre-computing skills are taught and reinforced through songs, stories, arts & crafts, experiments and hands-on activities. We strive for the development of fine and gross motor skills. We offer a great deal of physical play (outdoors and indoors).

Additionally, we offer enrichment in music and reading. Our goal is to teach sharing and caring for others, and to instill in the children a positive attitude toward school and an excitement for learning new things. The current enrollment in the Nursery School is 60 children. There are 2 classrooms of 4-year olds, 2 classrooms of 3-year olds and 1 class room of 2 1/2-year olds. Each classroom has a Lead Teacher and an aide. Both the staff and Nursery School are State Certified.

Tuesday/Thursday

12:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Must be 2 1/2-years-old by September to enroll in September

Enrollment in January is also possible if the child is 2 1/2 by January 1st

3-year-olds

3 day Program: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

Mornings: 9-11:30

Afternoons 12-2:30

4th day Enrichment Option: Monday Mornings 9-11:30

Must be 3-years-old by October 1st

Must be toilet trained

4-year-olds

4 day Program: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

Mornings 9-11:30

Afternoons 12-2:30

5th day Enrichment Option: Friday mornings 9-11:30

Must be 4-years-old by October 1st

Fees for the 2009-2010 Nursery School Year

Non-Refundable Registration fee: $60.00 for one child. $100 for two or more children.

2 day program: $1,530.00

3 day program: $1,980.00

4 day program: $2,340.00

5 day program: $2,835.00

Playcare Program

A program in the afternoon that features crafts, games, stories, outdoor play (weather permitting), lunch and

quiet time.

Offered Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday afternoons.

Lunch program from 11:30 to 1:00 is $10 and 11:30 to 2:30 is $17.

Summer Program - Summer Fun!

Offered for 2 weeks following the regular school year for 3 mornings, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Camp-like atmosphere with crafts, water fun, music and lots of outdoor activities!

One of our goals is to keep the lines of communication open with parents and care-givers. We accomplish this through daily contact, monthly newsletters, conferences, a parents' night in the Fall and special programs for parents and children during the year.

Joan Souder graduated from Smith College in 1973 with a degree in Art History. After a 10 year career in International banking she dedicated 18 years to bringing up her two daughters, during which time she taught Sunday School, ran two girl scout troops and volunteered in the classroom. She also substitute taught in Deerfield School for 8 years. Mrs. Souder has been Director of the Nursery School since 2003.
